Common questions
- What does LectureSync need to run? macOS 26 or later on an Apple Silicon Mac. The companion apps need iOS 18, iPadOS 18, or watchOS 11, and they're included in the same purchase.
- Does my audio leave my Mac? Not unless you choose it. Transcription and note writing run on your Mac out of the box. If you connect your own cloud account for notes, the app tells you before anything is sent, once per course. Details in the privacy policy.
- My notes and cards aren't showing up on my iPhone, iPad, or Watch. Sync runs through your own iCloud account, so every device has to be signed in to the same one, with iCloud turned on for LectureSync in that device's iCloud settings. A sync error that mentions needing an authenticated account means that device isn't signed in to iCloud yet. On a large library, give the first sync a few minutes before assuming something is wrong.
- Can I use the Mac app without iCloud? Yes. Sync is optional. With it off the Mac app works exactly as it always has, and everything stays on that one machine.
- Where are my notes? They're plain Markdown files in a folder you choose. They open in anything, including Obsidian, and they're yours even if you remove the app.
- The microphone or screen-audio permission didn't appear. Check System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Microphone (or Screen & System Audio Recording) and make sure LectureSync is allowed, then relaunch the app.
- A recording or import didn't turn into notes. Each lecture shows its status badge. If one says it failed, open the lecture and use Redo, and the saved audio is still there. If it keeps failing, email the details and it will get looked at.
- Refunds. Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds go through Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com.
Reporting a bug
Email info@lecturesync.app with:
- Your macOS version and the app version (LectureSync ▸ About LectureSync), or your iOS, iPadOS, or watchOS version if the problem is in a companion app
- What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead
- A screenshot if the problem is visible
Please don't email recordings or transcripts of real classes. A description is enough.
